Website or Blog... I need a feed. I admit it. I'm a typical Taurus. I'm stubborn to no end and I hate change. I don't mind being on the other side of change. I just hate going through it. I started this website with the intention of using blog technology. I took a look at Movable Type, couldn't figure out how to create three columns and gave up... because I figured out how to do it in HTML format within minutes. But now, I'm getting worried. I'm about three weeks into my new website and I couldn't it's time to figure out how to work with 'feeds'. Maybe I should back up a little. Back in 1999 I made a website as part of a Computer 101 class I took. I learned a little basic HTML and I was off and running. I've been on-line since then but not in the same realm - which means all these new things like blogs, feeds, pings, trackbacks, etc didn't exist when I made my website. It wasn't really a stagnant website. It was more of a dynamic website with information constantly being updated. I guess that is why I thought I would just create a blog format out of HTML. The stumper is that 'feeds' don't work for HTML and I would really like to offer my readers an easy way to come back. It looks like I have to use a blog format to make that happen. Argh! Here are a few questions I have before moving forward. Can I use a feedburner on a regular website? How do I access the HTML on a blog so I can customize the blog? Can I move my existing blog post to a blog format such as movable type or will they just be lost? I like my present format. It's simple, warm, friendly and comfortable. I'm concerned I'll lose the feel if I switch over to Movable Type. How format-able is Movable Type? I want my blog to have my url only, not one with Movable Type attached. How do I do that? I suppose once I get the hang of the new technology I'll be off and running. I'm at the starting gate. I'm willing to consider learning what I need to know. I want my blog to be as successful as it has a right to be. That will only happen if I give as many people who would like access to it, the opportunity to revisit as their convenience in a format they prefer. Hey, I get that one. I'm that way, too. No one wants to be put out while trying to find something they don't actually need. Okay, wish me luck! I'm off to learn and tinker. A few hours later: I've managed to wipe out my home page completely. It has been replace with Movable Types generic "My Yahoo + Movable Type Blog" page. Yes, I'm stunned and in utter disbelief. No I don't have a backup of my homepage anywhere. Yes, most of my other pages look like the homepage, so I can recreate it. OH MY GOD!!! I can't believe that just happened! Argh!!! Okay, we're going to try uploading this entry onto Movable Type. I'm not entirely sure I've set-up the paths correctly. Let's see how it works! If you are reading it in my blog section then it is my first blog using a true blog format which will also mean people will have access to the blog via feeds. Side note: It's a little weird not needing to write with HTML tags attached. Nice change. Oh heck! Let's go ahead and insert a pic while we're at it... just to check out the options. ![]() Note: This most was made in a Movable Type blog which, at least for the moment, I've put to rest since I haven't been able to make it look like the rest of my site yet and don't want to stop working creating blogs and working on the website while I'm trying to get the Movable Type blog working. I'm also looking into whether Word Press uses CSS or regular HTML. The latter I can work with, but I'm not sure I want to learn an entire new language just for a blog. So, for now, I will double post or just post here while I continue to shop around for the blog that fits my needs and the needs of my readers just right. please consider leaving a tip in my virtual tip jar!
