...as well as being lined with an array of lovely storefronts specializing in knick-knacks for tourists, the Strasbourg Tourist Office, and an Strasbourg Cultural Boutique which can be seen in the middle of the picture below, in the well lit corner store in the half-timbered building. It is easy to find since it is located directly in front of the cathedral.
...the square around the Cathedrale de Strasbourg offers a wide variety of shops, cafes and souvenir stores for the touristy-inclined.
The street that you see in the picture below directly faces the front of the Cathedrale Strasbourg. If you were to walk straight down this street you would run into several quaint little hotels as well as the the best pizza Sophie has ever had. She had the three-cheese pizza and it was absolutely fabulous! It's easy to find. Just walk down the road and it's a little Italian place squeezed between to German restaurants - all three restaurants are owned by the same people. Unfortunately, the pizza isn't always reliable. The first two times we went, the pizza was fantastic. The next two times we went it was barely passable. Sophie observed that it was because it was tourist season and apparently the restaurant doesn't bother making great pizza for the tourists. Nonetheless, at least twice it had the best pizza Sophie has ever had. That being said, there are at least two other pizza places before you would get to that one which we haven't tried and which both look lovely.
If you look at the picture below you will see a white building in the middle. That is the Strasbourg Tourist Office. To the right of it is a very famous restaurant with a lovely decor both inside and out. It is the building with the steep roof. As you walk by the building you can see that the walls are painted with lovely murals and the decoration is ornate and refined, but not stuffy, rather elegant.
The below photo is of Christian's. It is my favorite chocolate store in Strasbourg. Christian's has two locations and both have very elegant salons where elderly ladies sit and eat chocolate while drinking special drinks to accompanying them. If you are ever in Strasbourg, I strongly recommend stopping by Christian's for a nibble of some of the finest mouth watering chocolate you'll ever experience. Christian's is located on the street that you would walk on to get to the Cathedrale Strasbourg if you were going to enter directly from the front of the Cathedrale de Strasbourg.
Directly across the street from Christian's is this lovely little chocolateria called, Amorino of Italy. I've never had their chocolate but I love looking at their fabulous window displays. To the right of Amorino's is the Boutique Culturale. It is where you find all the happenings that are to be found in Strasbourg. The 7 colored lamps in the window are actually event boards for the current week to come. Any cultural event happening in the Strasbourg area can be found at this boutique. It is very easy to find as it is the corner building at the in front of the mouth to the Cathedrale Strasbourg.
In the picture below is the Hotel Cathedrale. It is a three star hotel which occupies both the blue and white building on the left hand side of the picture as well as the orange building in the center of the picture. It's an unassuming building in the middle of the square with a very impressive website which makes the rooms look adorable and quaint... imagine sitting in your bay window looking out onto the cathedrale. What a nice little getaway weekend trip that would make.
During the Spring, Summer and Fall the cafe directly in front of the Hotel Cathedrale puts out tables and chairs where tourists, as well as locals, gather for a coffee or ice cream. Sophie and I have gone there. It is a lovely area with a fun atmosphere. You are seated at the base of the Strasbourg Cathedral and are simply overwhelmed by the absolutely stunning view.
The picture below is another a quaint little store across from the Cathedrale Strasbourg. It is a lovely bookshop of antiquitarian books, Librairie Ancienne et Moderne.
If you continue down the street where we just visited the Antiquitarian bookstore you will run into this very lovely Antique Shop. Enjoy the below pictures of it.
The last photo I'm going to show you is of a cute little hat shop just past the Antique Shop and the Pizza Place. As are all of the shops surrounding the Cathedrale Strasbourg the Chapellerie Medernach is drips of charm.
Thank you for taking a stroll around the Cathedrale Strasbourg with me. It was fun. I hope we do it again sometime! I love giving to you. I also love receiving. All the best!
