Films Filled With Romance Anyone else out there a film addict? I love watching films. New, old, English, Foreign, independent and BBC specials. Ahhh... what I won't do for a simple, little romantic comedy. What would we do without Nora Ephron, Meg Ryan, George Cukor, Lauren Bacall, Cary Grant or the lovely Katharine Hepburn and Audrey Hepburn? Or Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice, the 1995 version starring Colin Firth. The five-hour and it was still too short version. Now, there is a film with a million remakes. I've personally seen the 1940 black and white American film version, the 1980 UK made for tv mini-series, my favorite version from 1995, and, of course, the rather disappointing 2005 remake starring the always lovely, graceful and versatile Keira Knightly. And, who could forget the more modernized adaptation starring Colin Firth, Renee Zellweger, and Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones's Diary and it's sequel Bridget Jones - The Edge of Reason. Hugh Grant alone has done wonders for romantic comedies. Just think where the genre would be without him. No Love Actually. No Notting Hill. No Two Weeks Notice. Ahhh, the world would not be quite as wonderful without his work. Have you ever thought about Hugh Grant's role in the Bridget Jones' films being played by someone else. Anyone else would not have been able to keep that character from being completely despised for being such the slimy, creepy dirt bag. Yet, Hugh Grant just pulls it off in the most lovable fashion. The list could go on and on... thank goodness. Let's not forget about the ever vivacious Sandra Bullock and all her fabulous film choices which have left us smiling to this very day when we think of them. If you haven't seen Two if by Sea, I strongly recommend it. It's nothing special, just a simple, fun film when you want to relax and just enjoy the moment. I loved The Lake House which the critics panned. Yes, perhaps there are issues with it's timeline being believable, but who cares. I loved watching Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. You can't help but love them together and separately. Sophie must have watched Miss Congeniality 20 times. It's a great film for kids. Back to Keanu Reeves. If you haven't seen Sweet November with Charlize Theron, I strongly recommend it. And while you're in the midst of feeling fabulous with your multitude of weekend love stories all lined up in a pretty row consider Something's Gotta Give. It's the ever so fabulous and fun film with the audaciously delicious Diane Keaton. Enjoy the day! |
